2012 heavy truck market: exports and natural gas become new growth points

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in the first 11 months of 2012, China sold a total of 3004561 trucks, a decrease of 8.11% compared with 2011. According to the tonnage classification, only the micro-cards in the four types of light trucks, China Cards, micro-cards and heavy trucks show an increase in absolute volume. In the overall market share, the proportion of heavy trucks in the overall trucks has decreased from the original 1/4 to Less than 1/5.

The continued slowdown in economic growth in 2012 was the main factor that caused the poor performance of the heavy truck market. The rapid growth of GDP growth for six consecutive quarters was the most direct reason for the continued decline in the growth rate of heavy trucks.

Although the proportion of heavy trucks in the truck market has declined, it has been subdivided into various companies and different vehicle models. In 2012, the heavy truck market was quite interesting.

Three-tiered situation breaks ice

In the first 11 months of 2012, the top ten heavy truck sales rankings are the same as in 2011. They are still Dongfeng, China National Heavy Duty Truck, FAW Jiefang, Futian Auman, Shaanxi Zhongqi, Jianghuai, Beiben, Shangyihong, Hualing, and Dazhong. Among the 10 companies operating, the 10 companies sold a total of 560,476 heavy trucks, which accounted for 95.62% of the total sales of heavy trucks, which was basically the same as 95.78% in 2011.

However, the three-tier ladder camp prior to heavy trucks was broken in 2012. In the first November, only Dongfeng Motor Company sold more than 100,000 vehicles, while CNHTC, FAW Jiefang, Futian Auman and Shaanxi Zhongqi were all Moving towards 100,000 cars, the traditional second camp is in hot pursuit of the first camp to close the gap. In contrast, the five companies in the third camp have sales of less than 30,000 vehicles, and the second camp There is still a big gap in sales.

The impact of the economic environment is the largest decline in dump trucks

According to preliminary statistics, the drop rate of tractor-trailers in 2012 will be 26% lower than that in 2011, the number of trucks dropped by 22%, and dump trucks will be the highest, at about 34%.

Among them, the drop in tractors and trucks was mainly due to insufficient demand for transportation of bulk production materials in 2012. In addition, the surge in holdings in 2009-2010 made it difficult for logistic users to operate, and the demand for cars dropped significantly. In 2012, the infrastructure, The real estate investment, steel, and coal all fell back compared to 2011, which had a serious impact on the dump truck market. Therefore, after the dump trucks had a good market performance in 2010, they were shrinking for two consecutive years.

Natural gas and exports become bright spots next year or will go further

Shaanxi Heavy Duty Truck Co., Ltd. is the one with the smallest decline in the sales volume of mainstream heavy truck companies in 2012. Its main players are natural gas heavy trucks and exports. Shaanxi Automobile, which had been distributing natural gas trucks as early as 2005, ushered in the harvest in 2012. In the previous October, sales of natural gas heavy trucks exceeded 6,000 units. In addition, the former October Shaanxi heavy truck exports exceeded 12,000, accounting for 15.7% of its total sales.

If in 2012, only a handful of companies successfully imported natural gas heavy trucks into the market, then exports are the highlight of most companies.
According to incomplete statistics, the first heavy-duty truck for export in China in October 2012 was China National Heavy Duty Truck Group. Its export volume continued to catch up with the total export volume in 2011, and China Heavy Truck Export’s heavy trucks accounted for 1/4 of its total sales volume. Ranked second in terms of exports is Shaanxi Heavy Duty Truck. In the first half of 2012, the export volume of Shaanxi Heavy Duty Trucks has exceeded the level of the previous year. Shaanxi Automobile's export volume accounts for 15.7% of its total sales volume. In the first 10 months of 2012, the major OEMs whose export volume accounted for nearly 10% of their sales volume were Beiben, Hualing, JAC, and Shang Yihong.

In the case of a sluggish domestic market, overseas markets will exert force, and this trend may continue for the next year.
