According to South Korean media reports, a medium-sized marine equipment company in South Korea has developed the world's first plasma ballast water treatment system (BWTS). According to the announcement by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs of South Korea on July 19, Samkun Century has obtained the type approval certificate for the Plasma type ballast water treatment system.
It is reported that this ARA Plasma BWTS generates shock waves through high-energy plasma arcs, which are specially used to treat microorganisms. Unlike electrolysis technology, this technology can operate in fresh water without the use of chemicals and has an economical function.
Of the 25 BWTS products or technologies that have been approved globally, South Korea has nine.
