Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
A construction equipment accident occurred early Wednesday morning in Mundelein, injuring a worker and spilling fuel after a machine fell into a ditch. According to reports, the incident happened while crews were working near a lake, using a drill beneath the roadway.
Mundelein Police Chief Eric Guenther stated that the operator of the equipment managed to escape unharmed and was seen walking around before police and firefighters arrived at the scene. The crane, which was attached to a front loader, was in the process of lifting the drill out of the ditch for refueling when an imbalance caused both machines to fall into the ditch.
Emergency crews were on site to assess the situation and ensure no further dangers arose from the spilled fuel. Although the operator was not seriously injured, the accident has raised concerns about safety protocols during such operations.
Several photos captured the aftermath of the incident, showing the excavator partially submerged in the ditch. The images, taken by local photographer Tim Olk, provide a visual account of the scene as emergency responders worked to secure the area.
