Chicago Fire Department history, 5-11 Alarm fire 11-14-03

This is from Steve Redick:

Recently, I came across an audio tape of the radio traffic from a fire incident at 19th & Peoria that I recorded from a fire alarm office. I’ve also attached a link to the images from that day. It’s fascinating to look back and see how much my equipment and techniques have improved since then. From what I remember, TL39 lost power while the bucket was in a dangerous position, and I have photos of firefighters stretching an exposure line to secure the basket and ladder. I recall seeing this from the elevated portion of the Dan Ryan as I was on my way, with heavy flames coming from a full city block — it was quite a sight. Despite the massive fire, there weren’t many great photos to be had. Enjoy the history.
