Coatings and Linings
When it comes to large-bore piping, especially those expected to endure harsh conditions for decades, effective coatings are crucial for safeguarding against both corrosion and physical wear. Our team specializes in delivering tailored coating solutions that meet specific customer needs or adhere to relevant industry standards. We offer a range of products designed to enhance durability and performance, including:
- Polyethylene Coating
- Polypropylene Coating
- Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE)
Prior to application, our pipes undergo rigorous preparation—typically high-pressure water cleaning to ensure a pristine surface. Beyond basic corrosion prevention, certain coatings like epoxy linings also play a role in minimizing internal roughness, which significantly reduces friction and improves flow efficiency—key benefits for gas pipelines.
For customers requiring alternative options, we can accommodate special requests for custom coatings and linings.
**Polyethylene (PE) Coating:**
The process begins with drying the pipes, followed by external sandblasting to meet SA 2.5 specifications. Pipes are then induction-heated to around 220°C before receiving an electrostatically applied epoxy primer ranging from 60 to 255 microns thick. Next, an adhesive foil approximately 125 to 400 microns thick is wrapped around the epoxy layer, topped off with a polyethylene foil layer. To preserve the integrity of the joints, pipe ends remain uncoated, offering temporary corrosion protection. For extended outdoor storage, the transition area between the PE chamfer and bare pipe end can be treated with a bitumen coating to further deter rust creep.
**Polypropylene (PP) Coating:**
If operating temperatures exceed 80°C, the coating’s resistance to indentation becomes critical. In such cases, we suggest a three-layer PP system, with the final layer being polypropylene. The structural design mirrors that of the three-layer PE system. Like the PE variant, pipe ends are left uncoated to provide temporary corrosion protection, while the transition from the PP chamfer to the bare pipe end can also be covered with a bituminous coating for added security.
**Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE):**
Epoxy powder is applied electrostatically after the pipe surface has been sandblasted to SA 2.5 standards and heated to approximately 240°C. This method ensures excellent adhesion and long-lasting protection.
**Epoxy Lining:**
Our API RP 5L2-compliant epoxy resin linings are specifically engineered for gas pipelines. By reducing the internal roughness of the pipe, these linings lower flow resistance and boost transmission efficiency—a vital consideration for optimizing pipeline operations.
In summary, our comprehensive range of coatings and linings reflects our commitment to delivering durable, high-performance solutions that align with diverse operational demands. Whether you need standard or customized treatments, we’re here to support your project every step of the way.
