Due to the presence of oxide film on the metal surface and the difference in thickness and density, the possibility of metal amalgamation is also different. Compared with other base metals, gold oxidizes at the slowest rate, and the resulting oxide film is the thinnest, making it the easiest to be amalgamated. Silver and platinum are prone to amalgamation between the majority of base metals. However, individual base metals, such as copper , are more likely to be amalgamated than platinum.
