LG Electronics to Reduce Plasma TV Business

South Korea’s LG Electronics stated that it will gradually reduce its plasma TV business at the end of November, and LCD technology will gradually approach its demise. In a regulatory filing on Tuesday, LG Electronics stated that as the plasma TV business accounted for 2.4% of the company's 2013 operating revenue, the decision reflected the decline in market demand for plasma TVs. Ken Hong, a spokesperson for LG, told reporters: “We hope to continue as long as we can” and pointed out that LG Electronics has made its own plasma panel.
Analysts said: “Plasma displays cannot technically surpass the progress of screen resolution, but they also consume more power and generate more heat than LCD screens. All these factors combine to drive the industry to focus on LCD technology. "IBK Securities analyst in Seoul said:" In July, global plasma TV shipments fell from 5.2 million to 500,000, from 2014 to 2015, almost disappeared from the market." Japan's Matsushita said in October that last year's withdrawal Plasma TV business. Once LG leaves the plasma TV business, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. will be the main company for the last plasma TV business. Samsung said it plans to continue with plasma TVs.
