Chicago 3-11 Alarm fire, August 27, 2014 (part 8)

This is from Steve Redick:

It took me three days to go through all the images, but it was definitely worth the time. The first photo shows a great aerial view of the fire building. Early reports mentioned heavy fire in the basement, and I believe an interior attack was attempted, but conditions were too dangerous, so they had to pull back quickly. The fire had already spread throughout the entire structure. There were also significant exposure issues. They called for the high-expansion foam unit, but by the time it arrived, the fire was too far along. So, they ended up doing an outside attack using two tower ladders, two snorkels, a deluge rig, hand lines, and even the hose wagon 612 on the north side. I also captured a shot of the new battery truck 6-3-9. I experimented with some black and white photos, and I was really happy with how they turned out. The photos are in chronological order, and when paired with my video, they give a clear sense of how the fire developed over time.
