REV Group announces electric fire truck

REV Fire Group, a division of REV Group Inc., one of the top manufacturers of specialty vehicles and related aftermarket parts and services, has made a groundbreaking announcement: they are set to launch the first fully electric fire truck designed specifically for North American fire departments.

This innovative electric fire apparatus was developed in collaboration with Emergency One Group LTD, the company behind the world’s first EV fire truck. The new model is equipped with 316 kW of high-performance automotive-grade batteries, offering the longest continuous pumping time among all electric fire trucks on the market. This means that firefighters can operate both driving and pumping functions entirely on electricity, without needing a backup system for short durations.

"Our advanced battery technology enables the truck to complete a full NFPA pump test while also providing a safer design with a lower center of gravity," said Roger Lackore, Senior Director of Product Development at REV Fire Group Engineering. To ensure reliability during long operations or in emergencies, a range-extender diesel engine is included as a backup option for use beyond three to four hours or in situations like blackouts and natural disasters.

"This fully electric fire truck is a testament to our commitment to innovation and building equipment that meets the demanding needs of the fire service," said Kent Tyler, President of REV Fire Group. The truck is available for delivery starting in 2022 and features a custom-designed North American layout. It's built using locally sourced components, ensuring easy access to replacement parts and keeping maintenance simple and cost-effective. Fire departments can tailor the vehicle to their specific requirements, making it a versatile and practical choice.
