2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 2-12-18

Chicago firefighters faced a major blaze at a commercial building located at 4749 W. Lake Street just after midnight on Monday, February 12, 2018. The fire was first spotted by Truck 29 as it returned to the station from a previous Still & Box Alarm call. By the time they arrived, the entire structure was already engulfed in flames, and the alarm was escalated to a 2-11. Shortly after emergency crews arrived, the building collapsed, adding to the danger and complexity of the situation. To combat the intense fire, multiple units were deployed, including two multi-purpose engines along with elevated master streams from Tower Ladder 5, Tower Ladder 14, Squad 2A, and Truck 29. Despite the efforts, one firefighter from the 5-11 Club Support Service Unit suffered an injury after slipping on ice and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The incident highlighted the risks faced by first responders during extreme weather conditions and high-intensity fires. Several photos captured the scene, showing firefighters working under challenging conditions, with equipment such as Tower Ladder 14 and Engine 113 actively involved in the operation. Images also showed fire hoses laid out near the elevated train tracks, as well as firefighters battling the flames in the cold. These visuals provide a powerful glimpse into the intensity and scale of the response. More photos are available at Shapirophotography.net.
