Chicago firefighters worked through the early hours of Monday, February 12, 2018, to contain a major fire at a commercial building located at 4749 W. Lake Street. The blaze was first spotted by Truck 29 as it returned to its station from a previous call at a Still & Box Alarm. Upon arrival, firefighters found the entire structure already engulfed in flames, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a 2-11. The building ultimately collapsed shortly after emergency crews arrived on scene.
To tackle the intense fire, multiple units were deployed, including two multi-purpose ladders and elevated master streams from Tower Ladder 5, Tower Ladder 14, Squad 2A, and Truck 29. Despite their efforts, one firefighter from the 5-11 Club Support Service Unit suffered an injury after slipping on ice and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The incident drew significant attention, with several Chicago Fire Department apparatus seen responding to the scene. Photos captured the dramatic response, showing fire trucks, ladder companies, and firefighters working under challenging conditions. Some images highlight the cold weather, with firefighters battling both the flames and the elements.
