House fire in Hawthorn Woods, 5-25-16

On Wednesday night, May 25, 2016, firefighters from Lake Zurich responded to a house fire at 3160 Louise Court in Hawthorn Woods. The incident occurred during a severe thunderstorm that was sweeping through the area. First-arriving units spotted smoke coming from the eaves of the home and quickly reported heavy fire conditions. As the flames spread, they broke through the roof, prompting interior crews to launch an aggressive attack that helped bring most of the fire under control within minutes. The situation escalated quickly, leading to the activation of a Box Alarm, which brought in mutual aid from nearly a dozen neighboring fire departments. Despite the challenging weather conditions, emergency responders worked efficiently to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Several photos from the scene were submitted by readers and local photographer Larry Shapiro, capturing dramatic moments of the fire, including flames bursting through the roof, firefighters working from a tower ladder, and the aftermath of the blaze. One image shows metal ramps being used to drive over fire hoses, highlighting the intense efforts made by the crews. Another depicts a Wauconda Fire District tower ladder at the scene, with firefighters actively working to extinguish the flames. The attic of the home was heavily damaged, and the garage door had to be cut open for access. The fire caused significant destruction, but no injuries were reported. A video of the incident is also available for viewing, offering a closer look at the response and the scale of the fire. For more images from this event, visit shapirophotography.net.
