Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 2-15-16

This report comes from Eric Haak:

It was a hectic morning for southside fire companies on Monday, February 15th. Around 1:30 AM, a fatal pin-in accident occurred at the intersection of 85th Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway. Shortly after, Engine 49 responded to an automatic alarm at 43rd and Packers, where they found a light haze in an industrial building. The situation eventually escalated into a still and box fire with stacks of cardboard burning, though the sprinkler system helped contain the flames. Firefighters remained at the scene for over three hours.

At 3:45 AM, Engine 101 arrived at a working fire on 76th and Artesian. One hour later, another still and box fire broke out at 5141 S. Princeton, where these photos were taken. Due to battalion chiefs being tied up at the earlier incidents, Battalion 7 was assigned as the incident commander. There were several frozen hydrants, and the fire spread to an occupied home on the "D" side. The original structure was a frame house that had been converted into a church. I’m not entirely sure, but I believe the spare engine was Engine 122, with Engine 5 also responding to the call.

The images captured by Eric Haak show the intensity of the night operations, including firefighters battling flames from the attic of a house, lines of hose in the snow, and engines like Engine 60 and Engine 16 on scene. The photos also highlight the efforts of crews working through the cold and challenging conditions, including those seen overhauling the site after back porches were damaged. These scenes give a real sense of the hard work and dedication shown by the Chicago Fire Department during what turned out to be a busy and demanding day.

Welded Plate Heat Exchanger

Welded Plate Heat Exchanger belongs to Recuperative Heat Exchanger, and is fully welded between every two plates to form channels through which the fluids with different temperature can flow and exchange heat. The high temperature fluid transfers heat to the low temperature fluid through the plates, thereby realize heat exchanging. The flow velocity of each fluid can be controlled by plates distance, so as to meet the working condition perfectly. In addition, there is also the semi-welded type plate heat exchange.

Welded Plate Heat Exchanger is mainly for vapor condensing and liquid to liquid heat exchanging, to meet with various requirements from industries like power sector, petrochemical, petroleum coking, pharmacy, metallurgy, refrigeration, paper processing etc. Optimal arrangement of various channels also make sure of high heat transfer efficiency and minimal pressure loss. Besides, its frame is detachable, and therefore it is convenient to have either mechanical cleaning or chemical cleaning as per actual situations.
