Shanghai developed into the highest energy marine crankshaft in China

The development of marine crankshafts, known as the "heart" components of large ships, has made major breakthroughs. Shanghai Marine Crankshaft Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric Heavy Industry Group, successfully manufactured the first 8K90MC-C crankshaft in China and was off the assembly line on the 27th.

The crankshaft is a key component of the marine engine. The ship with a large hull and advanced technology can not get water without the "axe" with excellent technical specifications. However, due to its heavy weight, high processing precision and difficult manufacturing, the crankshaft has always been the "soft rib" of China's shipbuilding industry. It has long relied on imports. In the past two years, domestically developed small-scale, low-energy marine crankshafts have begun to break the monopoly of a few countries such as the Czech Republic and South Korea.

The 8K90MC-C marine high-power low-speed diesel engine crankshaft developed by Shanghai Electric is the longest and heaviest of the semi-combined diesel engine crankshafts in China. It has a total length of 16 meters and a weight of about 200 tons. Through the rigorous inspection of the well-known diesel engine factory, classification society and patent company representatives at home and abroad, all the data have reached the design regulations, achieving the "zero defect" of quality control. The successful trial production of this high-energy-grade crankshaft indicates that Shanghai Electric has taken the lead in manufacturing the large-caliber marine crankshaft in China, filling a gap in this field.

At present, the world's marine crankshaft market is in short supply. As China ranks among the first teams in the global shipbuilding industry, the demand for large marine crankshafts continues to rise. It is reported that following this latest achievement, Shanghai Electric Heavy Industry Group will also trial and manufacture the world's largest model 12K98MC-C crankshaft and other super-advanced specifications according to the needs of overseas users. Liu Chaoming, general manager of Shanghai Marine Crankshaft Company, said that with the accumulation and maturity of technology, China's shipbuilding industry is expected to break the bottleneck of “one axis is hard to find” and push China to accelerate from “building ship power” to “building ship power”.

These housed units are selected where setscrew locking is preferred, but inner- ring stress and/or distortion are of major concern. They are frequently used in limited-space applications and where reversing shaft rotation is encountered.
Design Attributes
Bearings are locked onto the shaft by two set screws, 120 degrees apart, tightened in the collar and passing through drilled holes in the inner ring.
